Originally developed for the military, PowerFilm’s waterproof solar charger can provide electricity for everything from laptops and cellphones to bilge pumps and car batteries. The cadmium-free solar cells are mounted on thin film, which sits on a soft plastic layer, allowing you to roll it up for easy packing. The high-end version can run a laptop for about a half hour for every hour of sunlight it collects. You’ll need a 12-volt cigarette-lighter adapter for portables, and recharging batteries requires an optional charging module. And if you need more power, you can daisy-chain multiple units for up to 20 amps of output.

OK, these are the ultimate must-have green product for the tech people out there. iGo’s portable laptop and notebook chargers come with automatic shutdown and recovery systems. This company sells a wide variety of chargers. Overall, using an iGo charger reduces power consumption by about 80%.

iGo manufactures a very wide assortment of chargers for everything from laptops and other portable devices to super-efficient battery chargers.The universal iGo portable chargers can also be used to charge any other kind of gadget, from iPods to cell phones and more. Designed for mobiles, the Samsung OLED display screen will increase the life of your Li-Ion battery. This flexible OLED screen by Samsung might not be quite as cool as Sony’s, but is certainly another step toward the future of displays that consume nearly zero energy and are made from fewer materials. So keep an eye out for a production version of this display, hopefully coming sooner than later.

Motorola, in partnership with carbonfund.org, has come out with the Moto W233 Renew cellular phone, which is constructed of polycarbonate from recycled post-consumer waste -water cooler bottles! This cell phone ws certified by carbonfund.org for its low carbon footprint in terms of materials, production and power used to run the phone.

renew-motorola-phoneThe Moto W233 Renew uses 0.10 watts or less for standby mode, which reduces wasted energy by about 70%. Also, Motorola says that production of these phones took 20% less energy than their standard cell phones.

Motorola is also making several other changes to greening up their product line. Such as new cell phone chargersĀ  that remind you to unplug it from the wall when you’re done charging the cell phone.

The company also has digital cordless phones that optimize the power output based on the distance the handset is from the base. The D10 and D11 are two such cordless phones, and both are made from 20% recycles materials.

Motorola also does a lot to participate in recycling. The company collected over 2,560 tones of electrical equipment and electronic waste for recycling in 2007, and participates in or manages recycling programs in 70 countries. Currently about 15% of Motorola’s electricity comes from renewable sources. The goal for 2010 is to increase this number to 20%, and to 30% by 2020.
